Coastal and beach national parks

Ocean edges, beaches and headlands — harbour parks are a different list. Open each full guide.

Independent National Parks Guide Australia network · Unofficial visitor guides

Coastal parks still disagree with each other: Sydney’s south coast, NSW Far South, Sunshine Coast headlands, sand-mass islands, Great Ocean Road cliffs and Tasmanian granite bays. Tides, wind and parking usually beat the postcard.

Sydney Harbour is not on this page on purpose — headlands and ferries, not a beach day. Short live list only. Independent and unofficial. Open the park guide for access, then check official conditions. Cape Byron Lighthouse is in this network as an NPWS State Conservation Area, not as a national park — see Also in this network below.

Not a national park

This hub lists national parks. One NPWS State Conservation Area sits beside the directory because the planning problem is real — it is not park number sixty-one.

How to choose

  • Sydney south coast beaches and Coast Track country → Royal.
  • Port Stephens headland and Zenith Beach → Tomaree.
  • Central Coast headlands → Bouddi; South Coast camping beaches → Murramarang or Myall Lakes.
  • Far South Coast light-to-light country → Beowa; North Coast beaches → Yuraygir.
  • Sunshine Coast headland walk → Noosa; sand-mass scale → Great Sandy.
  • Cliff lookouts on the Great Ocean Road → Port Campbell; Wineglass Bay granite → Freycinet.
  • Tasman Peninsula dolerite → Tasman; ferry island off the east coast → Maria Island.
  • Esperance white beaches → Cape Le Grand; Eyre Peninsula coast near Port Lincoln → Lincoln.

Quick comparison

  • Royal — coastal day trips and overnight; beaches plus track logistics.
  • Noosa — busy headland coastal walk; parking is the plan.
  • Port Campbell — cliffs and stacks more than swimming beaches.
  • Freycinet — east-coast Tasmania; often longer than a Hobart day.
  • Great Sandy — sand-mass distances; not a city beach.
  • Beowa / Yuraygir / Myall / Bouddi / Murramarang / Tomaree — NSW coast family, each with a different drive.
  • Tasman / Maria Island — Tasmania’s peninsula cliffs vs ferry island.
  • Cape Le Grand / Lincoln — Esperance beaches vs Eyre Peninsula camping coast.
